Description
Telecom Administrator installs, configures, and supports an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), voice, and Internet systems including remote access and authentication. Responsible for the Design, Implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of ERCOT's network and telecommunication systems includes support of LAN/WAN, VoIP, PBX and wireless components. Adjusts network sizes to meet volume or capacity demands. Utilizes network monitoring systems to monitor utilization and reliability of infrastructure. Provides Level 3 support.

- May provide recommendations regarding issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Wide latitude for decisions within assignments, programs and projects; impact is generally limited to the project or department.
- Acts as a resource to advise, and may at times a lead the work of lower level professional and/or support employees. Generally represents the department on projects and may perform in a project leadership role.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
Level 2
- Management and maintenance of the ERCOT Corporate network
- Support of ERCOT wireless systems
- Works with Desktop Support Team on troubleshooting end-user issues
- Utilize ERCOT's extensive monitoring infrastructure to proactively analyze the network before problems occur
- Manage network ticketing queue
- Basic PBX configuration
- Implementation of new network systems and maintain existing systems
- Performs troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and analysis of the various firewall platforms supported at ERCOT
- Configures VPN and remote access platforms for high-availability
- Utilizes ERCOT's extensive monitoring infrastructure to proactively analyze the network before problems occur
- Maintains knowledge of the network monitoring applications to include NetScout, Network General Infinistream, Solarwinds Orion, and ArcSight
- Configures and supports end user phone handsets and VoIP soft phones
- Configures and manages out of band access solutions
- Opens trouble tickets on T1/T3/OC-3/DWDM issues with vendors
Level Senior – Above +
- Design and development of the network services architecture
- Ensures that proper failure recovery and security procedures are followed
- Diagnoses carrier circuit issues including, but not limited to, T-carrier, SONET, CSU/DSU and DS-X
- Configures load-balancing hardware to support server clustering
- Utilizes ERCOT's extensive monitoring infrastructure to proactively analyze the network before problems occur
- Configures, manages, and maintains PBX and voice systems, including VoIP infrastructure
- Participates in cross-functional planning and design to ensure that the networking systems are in compliance and are performing within expectation
- Works with application developers to ensure that applications are designed in accordance with network standards. Consult developers to ensure optimum performance and security
- Performs in-depth packet analysis and provide application troubleshooting expertise
- Understands and utilizes virtualization techniques and strategies
- Supports trader phone system and phone voice firewalls
- Conveys team goals effectively through strong written and verbal communication skills
Level Lead – Above +
- Serves as a Subject Matter Expert providing guidance to lower level workers
- Leads projects, schedules work, trains, mentors, and provides coaching for other employees
- Ensures work assignments of team members are completed in a timely manner and reviews work product of team for accuracy prior to submitting for management approval
- Works on the most complex issues where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
- Has the ability to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
- Maintains knowledge of emerging trends and industry best practices
Skills
- Cisco VoIP
- Cisco routing hardware to include 4300, 8300, 6500 and ASR series platforms
- Cisco switching hardware to include Nexus, Catalyst 3700 and 6500 series platforms
- Routing protocols to include EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP
- Cisco or Palo Alto Firewall and IPSEC/SSL VPN experience
- Cisco wireless system experience preferred
- SolarWinds Orion or NetScout experience preferred
- Nortel/Avaya PBX experience a plus
- SecureLogix Phone Firewall experience preferred
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Level 2:
- Requires minimum 2 years related work experience in excess of degree requirements in Telecom WAN corporate systems
- Preferred candidate will have a combination of training and experience in telecommunications technology (voice and data), project management, technical writing, and information governance
- Require experience in Excel and/or diagramming software such as Visio
- Prefer experience in supporting compliance and NERC CIP audit efforts
Senior Level:
- Requires minimum 5 years related work experience in excess of degree requirements in Telecom WAN corporate systems
- Preferred candidate will have a combination of training and experience in telecommunications technology (voice and data), project management, technical writing, and information governance
- Require experience in Excel and/or diagramming software such as Visio
- Prefer experience in supporting compliance and NERC CIP audit efforts
Lead Level:
- Requires minimum 8 years related work experience in excess of degree requirements in Telecom WAN corporate systems
- Preferred candidate will have a combination of training and experience in telecommunications technology (voice and data), project management, technical writing, and information governance
- Require experience in Excel and/or diagramming software such as Visio
- Prefer experience in supporting compliance and NERC CIP audit efforts
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (all levels):
- Experience with patching, updates, some design work, and installation with Cisco Telephony.
- Experience setting up SIP trunks or Cisco clusters.
- Python Scripting experience.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree : Computer Science or related field (Required)
- or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
CERTIFICATION
- CCNA (Preferred)
- Cisco Certification (Preferred)
- CCNP (Preferred)
- CCIE (Preferred)
There is one position available. It is open to a Level 2, Senior Level, or Lead Level. Level will be determined by the candidate's level of experience that is identified.
