SPECIAL PROGRAM COORDINATOR
TEENS HELPING SENIORS
DEFINITION
Under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate the Teens Helping Seniors program. Teens Helping Seniors serves Woodland by providing young volunteers to assist with general housework or yard work to seniors in the community over the summer break.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The following are typical illustrations of duties encompassed by the job class; not an all-inclusive or limiting list:
- Monitor a group of 7th-12th grade volunteers
- Collect, schedule, and carry out work requests submitted by Woodland Seniors
- Direct and delegate work to program participants
- Plan new and creative program elements
- Manage issues and discipline participants when necessary
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:Appropriate and interesting activities for 7th-12th grade volunteers; Housework and yard work techniques; Emergency procedures, First Aid, and CPR. Parks & Recreation offers a pre-summer certification class.
Skill to:Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Operate office equipment, including a personal computer; Apply First Aid/CPR methods and safety precautions related to assigned activities.
Ability to:Maintain enthusiasm and high spirits while working with youth; Develop cooperative public relations with the community; Remain calm in stressful situations; Be consistent with enforcing rules and regulations; Maintain authority and control over activities.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. College coursework in Recreation, Child Development, Education, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in the delivery of recreation services, youth services, or a related field
License and Certificates:Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver's License and current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification.
SALARY
$19.50 – $20.50 per hour (depending on qualifications)

LIMITED POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE

All positions are temporary/part-time. Temporary employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours in a Fiscal Year.
The pay cycle is bi-weekly. With the exception of Worker's compensation coverage and sick leave, no other benefits are provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.
THE ABILITY TO SPEAK AND UNDERSTAND SPANISH IS A DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION FOR ALL POSITIONS.
