The Portage County Health & Human Services department is hiring a full time Social Worker in the Child Welfare Assessment section.

What are the primary job responsibilities?

Provision of Juvenile Case Management and Court Services to Delinquents.

  • Perform court intake and dispositional services in accordance with Chapter 938, Wisconsin Statutes.
  • Provide counseling/case management services to juvenile offenders and their families.
  • Complete assessments, court reports, testify at hearings, make recommendations regarding dispositions.
  • Consult with law enforcement, Court, District Attorney, Public Defender, school officials, and therapists.
  • Provide 24-hour juvenile intake services for Chapters 48 and 938.

Provision of Child Welfare Services Regarding Child Abuse and Child Neglect

  • Develops, implements, and monitors comprehensive Protective Plans or Safety plans in conjunction with the CPS worker.
  • Arranges to meet with families within 24 hours of assignment.
  • Arranges frequent in person and other contact with the CPS caseworker to ensure that Protective and Safety plans remain sufficient to control the identified safety threats.
  • Meets frequently with families to provide and monitor that safety services are controlling the safety threats.
  • Arranges and facilitates Family Team and Safety Management meetings.
  • Completes all required documentation.

What are the minimum qualifications?

  • Bachelor degree in social work or other related human services field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • One year experience in the juvenile court system within the last five years required.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification in Wisconsin as a social worker preferred.
