About the role
The Nurse Senior Clinician role at Austin Child and Youth Mental Health Service is a newly created position that will be providing clinical expertise to support families accessing the Austin CYMHS eating disorder treatment program. The Eating Disorders program provides evidence-based interventions to young people experiencing severe eating disorders and may present with a range of co-morbid mental health issues.
This role will involve providing outpatient eating disorder support to families through the assessment and treatment process, discipline specific medical monitoring support, as well as the opportunity for facilitating support groups and contribution to service planning.
The role will support us to navigate the expansion of service in line with the Royal Commission into Mental Health recommendations.
A regular day will see you:
- Undertake comprehensive eating disorder assessment, risk formulation and management for children, young people and their carers/families, with an emphasis on supporting them through the assessment process ensuring timely access to treatment
- Undertake physical assessments and effectively manage risk by communicating necessary action to relevant people including family/carers, paediatricians, case manager, GP's etc
- Liase and consult with internal and external stakeholders, including clearly communicated handovers
- Liaise with relevant CYMHS teams to facilitate rapid allocation of cases and reduction/monitoring of risks

To be successful in this role you will bring with you:
- A relevant professional qualification in psychiatric nursing and current registration with AHPRA
- The minimum years of clinical experience in nursing for a senior role
- Expert level of knowledge/experience of child- and family-centred care, recovery- centred care and collaborative clinical practice (particularly in relation to young people)
- Substantial understanding together with solid experience and skills in delivering evidence-based assessment and treatment of eating disorders (i.e. Family Therapy for Eating Disorders/FBT, Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM) and/or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy – eating disorders (CBT-e) or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)) and for a range of co-morbid mental health issues
