Position Summary
The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking a postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a multi-disciplinary investigation of the uptake of per- and poly-fluorinated aliphatic substances (PFAS) into aquatic organisms (Daphnia magna and fathead minnow, Pimephales promelas) and assessment of toxicity of PFAS chemicals and mixtures. The position will involve collaboration with field, laboratory, and computational experiments in the laboratories of MSU Professors Cheryl Murphy, Dan Jones, and Angela Wilson and collaborators at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the University of California-Santa Barbara, and the University of Köln.
The individual will oversee collaborative exposure experiments involving fathead minnows, in the field and in the lab, and will also work with colleagues at Oak Ridge National Lab to design similar experiments with Daphnia. The data will be modeled using dynamic energy budget models (DEB). The individual will work with graduate students and undergraduate researchers at MSU, analytical chemists associated with Center for PFAS research at MSU, collaborators at University of California Santa Barbara for DEB modeling, collaborators with University of Cologne, US Army ERDC and Oak Ridge National Lab. The candidate will also be asked to make oral presentations at meetings and conferences, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and contributing to the writing of manuscripts.

Required Degree
Doctorate -in a related field
Minimum Requirements
PhD in a related field is required, and experience with toxicity exposure experiments on model species, as well as experience collecting sub-organismal information (eg. transcriptomics) as well as some quantitative background and an interest in dynamic energy budget modeling.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in the chemistry and dosing of PFAS chemicals, experience with fathead minnow husbandry, field work and daphnia, quantitative experience and interest in dynamic energy budget modeling. Willingness to travel to Oak Ridge National Lab to conduct daphnia exposures.
