Evidence Action is a global nonprofit organization with an approach distinctive in international development – we exclusively scale interventions that are backed by strong evidence and can be delivered with exceptional cost-effectiveness. Our programs have grown since our founding in 2013 to reach over 280 million people annually. We deliver high impact for every dollar spent, as recognized by GiveWell, The Life You Can Save, and Charity Navigator.
We do development differently. We take a data-driven approach to identifying, scaling, and continuously improving programs which deliver immense impact, ensuring these solutions measurably improve the lives of millions. Our Deworm the World Initiative helped governments in Africa and Asia deliver over 1.4 billion childhood deworming treatments, improving health, education, and incomes. Dispensers for Safe Water provides sustained safe water access to over 4 million people in rural Africa, preventing childhood illness and deaths.
We drive innovation. Our Accelerator builds the next generation of exceptional programs, taking an approach most similar to a venture capital model. We are ruthless in exiting programs which do not meet our criteria; those that advance deliver outsized impact for millions of people.
We are global. Across eight countries in Africa and Asia, our 400+ people are united by a tremendous passion for our mission and impact. We are strong because of our diversity of experience, geography, and background – with over 90% of our people in the countries where our impact is focused.
We have big ambitions. Our goal is to double our impact by 2024, to fulfill our vision of a world where hundreds of millions of people in the poorest places have better opportunities and their lives are measurably improved. We believe in bold and urgent action – because poverty doesn’t wait, and neither should we.
We need great people. Our success to date is due to the collective work of our amazing staff. To achieve our ambitious goals, we are looking for people who share our passion for evidence, cost-effectiveness, and scale. We seek individuals who take an entrepreneurial approach, enjoy tackling hard problems, and have a bias to action and results. If our vision and approach excite you as much as it does us, we invite you to join us.
Key Responsibilities:
The program manager will serve in the role of being the global representative for our deworming programs in Africa, currently Kenya and Nigeria, with the potential to expand support to additional countries. As a member of the global deworming program team and reporting to the Associate Director, Deworm the World Initiative, the program manager will work in close partnership with our country teams to ensure that programs are following technically sound best practices, and are reaching millions of children each year while maintaining cost-effectiveness. In doing so, the program manager will also be coordinating closely with cross-cutting teams at Evidence Action, including technical, monitoring, learning and evaluation, finance, and cost-effectiveness to ensure that all aspects of the programs are being implemented smoothly and efficiently.
This is a very exciting time to be involved in the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) space, with global momentum to accelerate efforts to achieve the goals set out under the World Health Organization’s 2030 Roadmap for NTDs. Our deworming programs are also evolving in this context, focusing on continuing to enhance treatment, but also thinking through changing operating models with reductions in disease prevalence, as well as moving towards more country ownership. The ideal candidate will be someone who is enthusiastic about being in the midst of this change, is able to parse through large amounts of technical details, and is able to bring structure to ambiguous situations while driving development of strategic recommendations and solutions in close coordination with relevant stakeholders.
Provide technical and strategic direction and support to country teams to programs focused on planning, high-quality implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) programs, primarily mass deworming. This will include:
Regular check-ins with country teams, ensuring work plans are aligned with the DtWI —Strategy and tracking progress against work plans.
Providing significant support and leadership, as needed, in review and completion of strategic, programmatic, and technical deliverables as necessary (for example, strategies to improve cost-effectiveness of programs, addressing bottlenecks such as medicine access/availability, and treatment strategy changes, among others).
Supporting budget development, monitoring, and financial review for programs, in close coordination with country teams, finance, and leadership.
Ensuring high-quality internal and external program reporting, and providing relevant updates to Evidence Action leadership.
Contribute to productive government and partner relationships, including strategies for regular touchpoints and relationship maintenance, as well as developing higher level or issue-based engagement tactics.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with partners in the NTD space; attend relevant conferences and meetings to engage and influence the deworming landscape in close coordination with DTW leadership.
Contribute to internal or external working groups or initiatives which may focus on key areas of program delivery to both provide and benefit from, and generate lessons across geographies and organizations.
Provide significant support to global team projects, activities, and deliverables as needed, including but not limited to assisting with our knowledge management agenda, development of global tools and resources, and technical knowledge products, among others.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, with 5-7 years of progressive experience in managing international public health programs.
Familiarity with infectious disease and/or NTD programming in the Africa region.
Demonstrated track record of analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, with experience in STATA/R/other statistical programs.
Significant experience in developing high-quality technical and non-technical deliverables for external audiences (policy reviews, policy documents, training materials, toolkits, etc.).
Structured and creative problem solver with an ability to develop analytical frameworks and drive to solutions.
A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in multicultural environments.
Energized by working on complex projects in global contexts, while coordinating with cross-cutting functions, particularly in a matrixed environment.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, and deliver high-quality results within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Alignment with Evidence Action values.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Ability to travel 20% of the time.
