Job Description
The City of Hamlet’s Police Department is seeking to fill a Patrol Sergeant position. We are looking for energetic and motivated candidates who desire to work for an excellent team driven department which places services to our community as a fundamental tenement. · The City of Hamlet is diverse community of approximately 7,000 residents. We are centrally located with a short drive to Raleigh, Charlotte, Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. We are less than an hour away from work class golfing in Pinehurst and Southern Pines. Our community offers a strong school system, multiple parks, and numerous recreational activities. Come enjoy kayaking on the Great Pee Dee River or exploring our many local state parks.

· A successful candidate must have a recognized high school diploma or GED, a Basic Law Enforcement Certification or currently enrolled in an accredited program. Certified in-state and out-of-state applicants are encouraged to apply. Applicant must successfully complete a comprehensive hiring process. A medical and psychological exam will be required. The City of Hamlet is an EOC employer.
Responsibilities
Deter crimes and assure community through high-visibility policing
Patrol assigned areas and monitor activities to protect people/property
Investigate crimes and apprehend suspected law violators
Observe and respond to various situations or emergencies
Follow rules, guidelines and protocols
Conduct initial investigations
Gather evidence and ensure successful prosecutions
Produce internal reports and provide feedback on case status
Deal with case paperwork and administrative procedures
Foster good public relationships and liaise with community groups or individuals
Coordinate operations with other emergency services
Attend and provide evidence in court
Supervise and mentor individual Officers assigned to shift
Skills
Proven working experience in law enforcement
Proficiency in using police equipment
Excellent knowledge of standard operating procedures, judicial procedures, civil and constitutional laws
Working knowledge of interrogation techniques and scene management
Knowledge and skills of law enforcement principles and practices
Adequate interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to build effective working relationships
Sound judgement along with effective decision making skills
Conflict resolutions and problem solving skills
Responsibility, dependability, honesty and integrity
Willing to submit to extensive medical and criminal background checks
Valid driving license
High school degree; BS degree in police science or related field is desirable
Other Specific Requirements:
Must be 20 years of age.
Must have U.S. Citizenship.
Must possess good moral character (as determined by an extensive background investigation).
Must NOT have been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor
Must meet vision, hearing, and other physical requirements
Military personnel must have a honorable discharge and must be eligible for reenlistment and provide a DD-214
Obtain clearance from N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
For applicants with military service, possess honorable discharge from any military service. Less than honorable discharge will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Demonstrate employment stability through past work history.
Pass an interview, a polygraph examination given by a licensed polygraph examiner, a psychological test, a drug screen and a medical examination.
Untruthfulness or the intentional withholding of information on any application, interview, polygraph examination or paperwork associated with the position will result in disqualification.
