Job Description

The employee works under the direction of the Chief of Police of the Greenville Police Department to patrol assigned areas, protect lives and property, enforce laws and prevent crime, respond to a variety of complaints and emergency calls, enforce traffic laws, apprehend criminal violators, prepare and maintain reports as well as other records and documents, and perform other numerous and varied law enforcement, public safety and public service duties.

Notice is hereby given that the Civil Service Commission of the City of Greenville, Darke County, Ohio, will hold a written examination for the position of Patrol Officer for the Police Department of the City of Greenville, Ohio, at 8:00 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Greenville High School, 100 Greenwave Way, Greenville, Ohio 45331.

Applicants must have attained the age of 21 on or before the date of the written examination. Ohio Peace Officer Certification is NOT required. The Greenville Police Department will send you to the academy upon employment.

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and have a high school diploma or GED as of April 23, 2023. Applicants must be citizens of the United States of America or have legally declared their intentions of becoming United States citizens. Salary ranges from $49,233.60 to $69,409.60 annually, plus benefits.

The application must be completed and returned to the Office of the Mayor no later than 4:00 PM on April 12, 2023, to be eligible to take the examination.

Job Requirements

Age: 21

Education: High School diploma or GED as of April 23, 2023.

Experience: No experience required.

A photo ID issued by a government agency must be presented to gain admission to the examination. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the written examination and receive any credits. The candidate(s) considered for appointment shall be further required to submit to and pass a medical examination; psychological examination; a background check; a drug screening application; a polygraph examination; and a physical fitness test prior to employment.
