Weare hiring a Full timeOperator IIposition working at our Taylor, Texas industrial water site.
This position performs operational tasks involved in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant, equipment and processes. This position is subject to call back, overtime, weekend, and holiday emergency call-outs and on call duty.
What you’d be responsible for
- Performs work involving the operations, maintenance, and control of various wastewater Treatment processes; analyzing chemical processes, canvassing the process and performing various functions in process controls.
- Participate in the operation, maintenance, control, and repair of all related plant process equipment including; pumps, motors, chemical feeds, and basic laboratory instruments to ensure treated wastewater meets Local, County, State and EPA quality standards. Collects various samples for process and compliance testing.
- Prioritizes activities between the different treatment facilities and systems, including the operation of valves, gates, pumps and machinery manually, locally in automatic mode or remote via computerized control strategy.
- Recognizes the need and makes treatment and operational changes to the processes to meet water quality standards.
- Adjust process equipment to allow for maintenance activities.
- Performs preventative maintenance on various pieces of equipment and report problems. Perform minor plumbing repairs and basic mechanical or electrical troubleshooting. Make equipment adjustments, lubrications, minor repairs and report equipment problems.
- May assist with preventative maintenance tasks including assisting maintenance staff with repairs of related equipment.
- Operate, monitor and adjust, as necessary, all related plant process equipment, including chemical pumps. Calculate chemical feed rates and change pump settings as needed. Monitor SCADA systems.
- Operate the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, which monitors and controls the Wastewater Treatment Plant and related processes and functions.
- Assist in the safe unloading and storage of chemicals. Operation of heavy equipment (e.g. forklift, backhoe, front loader).
- Perform housekeeping duties, in order to keep all facilities clean and neat, as you may occasionally conduct tours of treatment plant, pumping, and storage facilities.
- Assist in training new operators.
- Data entry
- Perform other duties as required.
What’s required to be successful
- All candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Texas driver’s license with good driving record
- Knowledge and experience in laboratory practices required to properly evaluate treatment processes, such as BOD, DO, pH, jar test, CL2 residual, turbidity, COD, color, hardness, TSS, TDS, fecal coliforms and total coliforms.
- Knowledge and experience in chemical, physical and biological processes used in wastewater treatment processes, such as coagulation, flocculation, settling, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection and activated sludge.
- Knowledge and experience in basic operation practices and principles of advanced water treatment processes, such as microfiltration and reverse osmosis.
- Experience in simple mechanical and electrical trouble shooting.
- Perform all routine operator functions.
- Operate and manage sludge presses and centrifuges
- Determine processing requirements; sample the influent and effluent at various stages of processing and identify problems and ensure proper and efficient operation of the treatment plant.
- Prepare simple spreadsheets and word documents using various software programs.
- Proficiently perform computerized word processing, summarizing and writing/editing.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Handle multiple projects simultaneously, and use good judgment to prioritize schedule and work tasks to complete work within specified time periods and deadlines.
- Make mathematical calculations and draw logical conclusions, using thoughtful and thorough analysis.
- Listen, communicate and work effectively and courteously with a diverse group of people. Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, contractors and the general public.
- Attend or conduct various meetings as needed or directed.
- Able to give some direction and train Operator I’s
- Experience in the operations, methods, practices, techniques and servicing requirements of wastewater treatment and pumping facilities, and wastewater collection facilities. How to perform standardized wastewater laboratory analyses.
- Knowledge of the safety practices in the operation of electrical and mechanical equipment used in wastewater facilities, and OSHA guidelines related to large treatment facilities.
- Be able to perform accurate arithmetic computations, standardized wastewater laboratory analyses, read and interpret meters, charts, gauges and recording devices.
The selected candidate must:
- Have and maintain Wastewater class D certification from TCEQ
- Obtain Hazwoper 40 hr certification within 6 months
- Be able to pass respirator fit test within 6 months
- Complete all OSHA/safety training as required.
