Description
The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W), is looking for a NDE Field Technician. You will support and manage conventional and specialized NDT services on field contracts at customer jobsites. Training will include classroom/office sessions, and more importantly, hands-on training in the field. The Technician will be expected to establish a knowledge base so that they can eventually work on their own as a B&W representative in a customer's plant. B&W customers include power plants, refineries, mining companies, papermills, hospitals, universities, breweries, and various other industries requiring steam for their generation or production activities.
This position requires extensive travel (up to 75%) including driving on client/customer property. Travel includes projects both domestic and international.
Some duties include the following
- Act as the B&W technical lead on customer jobsites for Condition Assessment projects.
- Perform non-destructive testing methods such as Ultrasonic thickness and phased array (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Dye Penetrant (PT). Also, learn and perform B&W specialized NDE testing such as FST Gage, Hone & Glow and NOTIS testing.
- Manage and supervise other subcontracted NDE technicians and support labor.
- Collect and evaluate field data.
- Directly interface with customers, account executives and sublet vendors with assistance and guidance from the District Engineer, Project Manager or a senior Engineer/Technician.
- Prepares technical reports, typically documenting work activities and recommendations.
- Works as part of a team during outages.
Qualifications
- Certified Level II NDE technician in MT, PT and UT
- Vocational/Technical and 5 years experience in NDE or other equivalent work field.
- 2+ years experience supervising other technicians (not required)
- Good oral communication skills to present testing results at meetings with customer personnel.
- Written communication skills, should be able to use MS Office products such as Outlook, Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision required.
- Knowledge and experience in NDE / NDT (i.e., certified level II)
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
- Ability and desire to travel.
