Position Highlights

The Department of Mathematics at The University of Arizona seeks highly qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Statistics/Data Science. The primary role of these faculty members is to create an engaging and meaningful learning experience for students in statistics and data science courses across the undergraduate catalog. We are looking for individuals who are dedicated to providing high quality instruction and who will bring enthusiasm and expertise to this endeavor. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with other faculty to contribute to and be part of an innovative teaching and learning environment, and to help develop effective curricula for our Statistics and Data Science degree programs. All positions are in-person at the University of Arizona main campus in Tucson.

This is an academic-year, non-tenure track teaching appointment. After the first academic year, multi-year contracts may be available, pending performance review. The Lecturer series of titles includes Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Principal Lecturer, and there is opportunity for career progression and growth within this career track. Salary will depend on experience and qualifications.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility is to teach in-person statistics and data science courses across the range of the undergraduate curriculum, as needed by the department.
  • Incumbents are expected to participate in various departmental activities, such as tutoring and mentoring programs. Full-time appointments usually require teaching 6-9 credit hours each semester, depending on course demands and departmental needs.
  • After the first year, it is expected that incumbents will serve as a faculty advisor to several SDS undergraduate majors.
  • Additional responsibilities include attendance at all appropriate course meetings, faculty meetings, committee meetings, and related professional development sessions.
  • There is a possibility of teaching in the summer for additional compensation, depending on availability of classes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in statistics or closely related field, with a strong background in coursework that aligns with our undergraduate curriculum.
  • Significant experience teaching in a university or college setting.
  • Experience in the content areas of probability, statistical methods, generalized linear models, and statistical computing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience suited to teach the full range of undergraduate courses in statistics/data science.
  • Experience with curriculum development at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses in large format (100+ students).
