Department Summary
The Mayborn School of Journalismis located in the dynamic Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex; the fifth largest media market in the country. We have an enrollment of over 900 undergraduate and graduate students. We are proudly recognized as a Hispanic-Serving institution (HIS) and Minority Serving Institution (MSI). A substantial proportion of our majors (approximately 50%) and graduate students (approximately 70%) are from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds.
The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, collectively known as North Texas, continues to experience some of the most robust growth in Texas and the United States. Over 175 new corporate headquarters have moved here since 2010. The location of our campus has allowed us to cultivate notable partnerships with nearby businesses, including advertising agencies and PR firms. In addition to access to industry professionals for guest lectures, our proximity provides infinite opportunities for internships, business tours, and research.
DFW is home to four major sports teams, a thriving arts community, and domestic and international airports. With 10 major metro areas and 13 counties, the DFW Metroplex covers a vast geographical area and the largest metro in the southern United States.
Our advertising students receive exceptional preparation for promising careers as they engage in a multitude of media and hands-on professional experiences, including our student-managed ad agency (SWOOP), PR agency (AGENZ PR), and National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) team (Gravitas). Graduates from our program work across the country including in top-tier markets such as Dallas, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and others. Our alumni have won a variety of industry awards including the Cannes Lions (including the Cannes Grand Prix for Good), One Show Pencils, Addys, and other advertising awards.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary
The person in this position will a teach a 4-4 class load in our advertising sequence. An important responsibility will be to advise the Ad Team, Gravitas, which participates in National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) each year. As such, this position allows extensive hands-on experience working alongside our talented students in not just a teaching role, but in mentorship and coaching roles as well. We are excited to launch a new advertising curriculum in fall 2023, which emphasizes advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and authenticity in the ad industry and the content we create.
We seek candidates with expertise in new media technology, including proficiency in advertising online through writing-driven strategies such as search optimization, content marketing, and corresponding campaign and digital analytics. Candidates must have experience in creating and/or evaluating multicultural advertising campaigns, as well as skills creating strategy and writing authentically for diverse audiences. Ideally, the person for this hire would have advertising industry experience working on social media campaigns and, as a plus, directly with influencers and/or brand activations.
Preference for fall 2023 hire; however, consideration may be extended to spring 2024.
Minimum Qualifications
By the time of appointment, candidates must have a master’s degree in advertising, strategic communication, or a related field.
