Description
Colorado Springs Utilities Water Construction, Maintenance, and Restoration team is hiring an experienced Hydro Excavation Heavy Equipment Operatorto accomplish core functions within the group. In this position, you will support water, gas, and electric services; responsible for operating heavy equipment for maintenance and repair projects for underground utilities. Heavy Equipment Operators work in a team environment and are expected to maintain a high level of safety awareness.
Starting pay for this position is $36.15/hr. Once you have completed probation (typically 6 months) your pay will increase to $37.96/hr.
In this job, you will be responsible for:
- Operating a wide variety of heavy equipment, primary responsibility will be a hydro-excavation unit. Experience in other types of equipment is also preferred, such as backhoes, trackhoes, bulldozers, overhead cranes, large screening decks for gravel mining operations, motor graders, wheel loaders, etc.

Transporting equipment to the job site

Assisting in project planning and setting up job sites

Assisting in training other operators

Coordinating major construction projects

Performing skilled activities in repairing utility collection, transmission, and distribution systems

Assisting customers with questions and providing information

Inspecting equipment, performing preventative maintenance on equipment, and scheduling major repairs

Participation in emergency call outs

Operation of Class A and B vehicles

Assisting the Water, Wastewater, Gas, and Electric crews in the construction and maintenance of Utilities water distribution or collection systems, working in and near high-volume traffic areas
Who you are
-
Qualified candidates will offer two or more years of experience in the skilled operation of heavy equipment; Hydro-excavation experience is preferred

A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Tanker Endorsement are required; Class A CDL is preferred

The successful candidate must be available to work overtime when needed and will be subject to after-hours call-out and/or standby time
