We are looking for an Environmental Coordinator!

Under general mentorship, the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with all issued permits and applicable local, State and Federal environmental Laws, Ordinances, Regulations and Statutes, and will have responsibility for all aspects of environmental reporting and compliance (air, waste, and water) including monitoring, inspecting, auditing, reporting, and recordkeeping for the AES Alamitos generating station.

The Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for implementing and insuring compliance with environmental compliance management processes and Standard Operating Procedures at AES Southland, for proactively monitoring proposed regulations that may impact Southland facility operations and business planning and will participate in various environmental and business planning work groups.  

The Environmental Coordinator will also work closely with the AES Southland Environmental Team to implement the business Environmental Management System and complete any appropriate tasks within AESOnline/Intelex (ie. Internal and external audits).  

The incumbent must be willing to take ownership of AES Southland's environmental compliance program, and act as a contact for all federal, state, and local environmental regulatory agencies for the AES Alamitos generating station and be responsible for all compliance and reporting deadlines.

The expected salary for this position is between $ 106 and $155 USD. Factors that may be used to determine final salary offered include relevant experience, skills, location, qualifications and other factors, consistent with applicable law. This position is eligible to receive an annual bonus.

Basic Requirements:

  • Interested candidates must have a validated experience of 8-10 years in progressively responsible and diverse positions in environmental compliance and regulatory audits or demonstrate outstanding knowledge of local environmental regulations with the desire to be an authority in their field.
  • Experience in the power generation industry is a plus.  Agency compliance reporting experience is helpful.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related engineering or scientific field required.
  • Ability to work under pressure within deadlines and while handling multiple priorities.
  • Strong solid understanding of air quality practices, NPDES and waste regulations.
  • Meticulous; ability to read, analyze and interpret environmental regulations.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to get along with a diverse group.
  • Hard-working, results-oriented with a clear focus on high-quality outcomes and business success.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project).
  • Valid driver´s license or ability to acquire one.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Assure site environmental compliance with all aspects of environmental regulations.
  • Provide plant personnel with environmental compliance mentorship and training.
  • Prepare monthly, semi-annual and annual monitoring air quality, water quality and hazardous waste reports to various agencies including the California Air Resources Board, South Coast Air Quality Management District, US EPA, State and Regional Water Quality Control Board, local Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPA).
  • Report on and provide strategic direction for the mitigation and correction of environmental deficiencies or excursions.
  • Ensure all environmental permits are current and accurate.
  • Help develop and track site specific environmental budgets.
  • Coordinate required sampling and analysis per environmental permits.
  • Maintain water laboratory to ensure compliance with accreditation programs. 
  • Provide guidance for the management of, and ensure compliance with, all air quality source testing.
  • Submit all agency required reports, plans, and procedures timely and accurately.
  • Implement and ensure accuracy of the corporate environmental management system (EMS).
  • Assist in both internal and external environmental audits as required.
