Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.
An exciting and rare opportunity exists for a motivated and enthusiastic PEN2 to apply for a full-time or part-time Enrolled Mental Health Nursing role at the Child Inpatient Unit.
The Child Inpatient Unit is part of Austin Health's Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) in the Mental Health Division. It services children from metropolitan and regional areas of Victoria. The Unit has 12 beds, and is based at the Austin Hospital. The Unit admits children aged 12 and under for assessment and treatment. Children are often admitted to the Unit with their parent/carer and/or further family (i.e. siblings).
These children may be experiencing emotional, behavioural and/or social difficulties and have usually received some outpatient treatment. A high proportion of the children on the Unit are admitted under a planned circumstance for an admission usually for a number of weeks (often utilising weekend leave). The Unit does, however, also admit children under crisis circumstances for short periods.
The Enrolled Mental Health Nurse at Austin's Child Inpatient Unit is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating evidence-based, high quality mental health nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal healthcare outcomes for our children and their families. They are a reflective team member, that holds recovery orientated practice essential in all of their care delivery.
The Enrolled Mental Health Nurse is a key member of the health care team responsible for ensuring nursing professional, organisational, legal and ethical standards are continually maintained to a high standard.
The Child Unit is a leader in promoting staff well-being whilst providing useful supports to the mental health workforce. As a Mental Health Nurse employed on the Child Unit you will be rewarded with regular high quality nursing supervision both as a group and one on one, team reflective sessions with your multidisciplinary team on a regular basis facilitated by a highly qualified external supervisor, and the use of an identified space to take time out and utilise time/space and sensory approaches to re-regulate at times of stress.
