Job Description:

Student Development, Supervision, & Risk Management:

  • Recruit, train, supervise, coach, mentor and evaluate student and other part-time staff (approximately 50 staff on an annual basis).
  • Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and training sessions for each assigned area including awareness and compliance with all University policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development of program training manuals and materials including safety and risk management practices to meet national standards and University policy.
  • In coordination with unit area team and the Talent Management Unit create and implement a comprehensive student development program.
  • Communicate job responsibilities and expectations for student employees.

Program Management & Administration:

  • Plan, develop, schedule, and implement assigned programming, including trip logistics, assessing location-specific risk management, prepping equipment, and briefing student staff and participants as needed.
  • Compiles qualitative and quantitative data from post-trip evaluations; provides and maintains reports used in assessment of programmatic quality and goals
  • Promote operating policies and procedures for use in assigned programs.
  • Enforce University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • In tandem with Assistant Director, collaborate with other units within RecSports and on campus to develop new and relevant programs.
  • Promote programs by coordinating with marketing & outreach to advertise programs.

Expected Salary:

$36,000 – $50,000

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree and two years of experience with recreation programming including guide training, outdoor recreation trip planning, and field work is required.  Knowledge of basic safety and risk management practices and industry standards as they relate to adventure/outdoor recreation as demonstrated through past program management. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Wilderness First Responder certification. Background in Recreation, Outdoor Leadership, or related field.
