POSITION PURPOSE

Supervise the operation and maintenance of Blount Generating Station including the remote combustion turbines and distributed generators (DGs) to meet the electrical demands of the Systems Operation Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises a staff of approximately nine bargaining unit employees as well as contract personnel to safely operate and maintain the equipment and systems of Blount Generating Station in the most reliable and cost-efficient manner. Assists with the implementation and control of an annual operation and maintenance budget of approximately $2.5 million and a fixed capital budget exceeding $3.5 million.
  • Directs operations and maintenance craft personnel and contractors as necessary to ensure the safe operation as well as corrective, preventive, predictive, and emergent maintenance requirements of electrical generating equipment, auxiliaries, and associated structures at Blount Generating Station, the remote combustion turbine sites, and remote DG sites.
  • Coordinates operations and maintenance needs with other Company departments including the Systems Operation Center.
  • Determines the operational status of equipment and initiates troubleshooting to determine cause of any malfunctions. Initiates work orders and makes emergency arrangements for repairs to minimize downtime and maintain a high level of reliability for the electric generation plant.
  • Oversees scheduling, assignment, training, and development of Blount Generating Station operation and maintenance team employees. Assists the trainer in specifying and administering training topics and requirements for all operation and maintenance craft personnel. Assists with the apprenticeship program as required.
  • Maintains consistent awareness of and total compliance with all associated environmental and safety rules, regulations, and requirements as they pertain to the operation and maintenance of Blount equipment.
  • Performs periodic performance evaluations and reviews with all craft personnel.
  • Ensures optimal plant performance. Continuously finds creative ways to reduce Operations and Maintenance (O&M) costs.
  • Assists in designing, developing, and implementing new work processes and procedures designed to enhance and improve the performance of the department and to further Company goals.
  • Writes, reviews, and approves technical operating procedures for various types of equipment used in the Blount Generating Station.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma required. Additional education and degree in a related technical or engineering discipline preferred.
  • Ten years of experience in the operation or maintenance of power generation equipment and systems or related equivalent preferred, with at least two of those years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Two years supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Familiar with the principles of supervision and able to apply those techniques in the direction of power generation equipment operation and maintenance. Proven abilities in planning, organizing, and controlling operation and maintenance activities and the performance of them.
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical power generation equipment, systems, and auxiliaries and their associated operation and maintenance requirements.
  • Able to balance many different activities with assorted priorities simultaneously and to direct resources and personnel accordingly.
  • Basic understanding of computer-based asset management and inventory control software programs and personal computer operations and familiar with commonly used business software programs.
  • Familiar with bargaining unit agreements and negotiations as they pertain to equipment maintenance and personnel.
