The University seeks an Assistant General Counsel who will provide legal advice related to litigation and direct representation of the University in litigation and arbitrations. The person will be responsible for a significant portion of the University's litigation portfolio. The person will also function as a generalist, providing advice and services in a variety of subject areas handled by OGC. Substantial knowledge and experience in a minimum of three practice areas relevant to higher education is preferred, such as labor and employment, civil rights, Title IX, FERPA, student life, state and federal constitutional law, contracts and procurement, business transactions, risk management and insurance, subpoena and discovery practice, policy development, health care, and public records.

- The required qualifications include a Juris Doctorate granted by an ABA accredited law school.
- Admission to or eligibility for admission to the State Bar of Michigan within 6 months of the position start date;
- at least 6 years of relevant work experience.
- Strong academic background.
- Excellent writing ability and advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, work on, and advance multiple concurrent projects and issues.
- Ability to address and advise diverse groups of University constituents.
- Familiarity with college/university operations is a plus.
