Assistant Director, Recreation and Wellness Services (Aquatics, Operations and Safety)

Salary:

Minimum $44,705 

Basic Function:

To assist in directing the daily operations of the department; to manage an assigned recreational program or function (e.g., fitness, wellness, aquatics, community programs, facilities management and operations, etc.). Reports to Associate Director, Recreational Services or designated supervisor.

Additional Basic Function – if applicable:

The Assistant Director, Aquatics, Operations, and safety will provide support and leadership through safety and risk management education and training.  Additionally, this position will provide operational and facility oversight of the natatorium, including assisting with maintenance support, maintaining all records and requirements specific to the Ohio Revised Code for swimming pool operations, and assisting with planning and organizing the annual maintenance shutdown.  This position will be responsible for marketing, scheduling, training, and staffing all American Red Cross programming and youth swim teams.  Critical responsibilities including supervising student staff and full-time pool technician and creating and implementing a safety response team for the department.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:  

Assist Associate Director in coordinating the daily operations of the department; participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

Direct an assigned recreational program or function (e.g. fitness, wellness, aquatics, community programs, membership services, facilities management and operations, etc.).

Plan, monitor, and maintain program budget; prepare and maintain program reports and records.
Oversee maintenance of recreational facilities for areas of responsibility.

Evaluate effectiveness of programs and services; ensure delivery of quality customer service.

Review programs and services to ensure safety and risk management practices are followed and make recommendations for enhancements.

Hire, train, and supervise program and operations staff.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Sport Administration, Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or a relevant field; three years’ experience in recreational services or a relevant field which has included at least one year in a supervisory or lead capacity.

License/Certification:

CURRENT AMERICAN RED CROSS CERTIFICATION IN LIFEGUARDING AND SAFETY INSTRUCTION (LG, LGI, WSI, CPR/FA/AED) REQUIRED.

Knowledge Of:

Desktop office computing applications
Budgeting procedures
Best practices in recreation *
Risk and safety practices relative to recreation services *

Skill In:

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication *
Handling difficult situations involving conflict to patrons *
Interpreting and applying policies in a consistent manner
Managing multiple projects with a strict deadline *
The evaluation of programs/services and make recommendations *
Developing programs/services which are safe, inclusive and diverse

Ability To:

Mentor, train and instruct student employees
Work with diverse populations in an effective manner
Apply state and federal regulations applicable to the department (Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Master's degree in Sport Administration, Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or a relevant field. Detail oriented, highly organized and the ability to deal with a variety of situations and people in a balanced way.

 

 

AMERICAN RED CROSS CERTIFICATIONS IN WSIT AND LGIT PREFERRED.  CPO CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED OR MUST BE OBTAINED WITHIN 90 DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
