Iowa Wesleyan University is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Criminal Justice. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track (if qualified), teaching and administrative position within the Criminal Justice program. The position could require teaching traditional and nontraditional students during day and evening face to face, online, and hybrid/accelerated, academic advising, participating on standing Campus committees, and performing other work-related duties as assigned.

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Criminal Justice is a unique hybrid faculty and staff position that is contracted over the course of a full 12-months (August to July) and is eligible to participate in the full IW benefit package that includes a generous PTO and paid holidays opportunities.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position entails effective undergraduate and graduate instruction and academic advising, including helping to prepare students for post-graduate work in the field of Criminal Justice and serving as the Coordinator for the Criminal Justice program. Additional work involves program development and assessment. Teaching responsibilities will involve courses in the Criminal Justice major (law enforcement, criminology, corrections, research methods, careers, for instance) with a willingness to engage and lead students in experiential and service learning. Specialty area in Criminal Justice is open. Responsibilities also include working collaboratively with the Enrollment team and actively engaging in recruiting efforts to increase program enrollment.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the Criminal Justice discipline.
  • Community-based or service-learning experience and experience teaching and developing online curricula is desirable.
  • Commitment to excellent undergraduate instruction and a dedication to committee service at institutional levels.
  • Availability evenings and weekends during the regular academic year, required
  • Availability for on-campus hours during the non-traditional academic semester months, May thru August
