Job description

The School of Education, Counseling, and Human Development (ECHD) is seeking candidates for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty, open rank position at our main campus in Brookings, South Dakota with a state date of August 2023. This is full-time, benefit-eligible, position that will also serve as the Program Coordinator for Counseling and Human Resource Development. Primary responsibilities includeoversight of six Counseling specialization tracks, maintain accreditation standards with CACREP and the state, teach graduate students, provide academic advisement support to students in the program, respond to inquiries regarding the overall academic unit, connect and support the Counseling program at the Rapid City campus location, participate in committees, maintain an active research agenda as documented through publications and presentations, provide input and make recommendations regarding the development of and expenditures from the budget, assist with identifying and securing temporary faculty (adjuncts), review program faculty workloads, and oversee graduate applications and other duties as assigned to the position. This position requires in-person teaching in Brookings, South Dakota.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach graduate courses in a CACREP-approved master’s level program including clinical courses such as Practicum and/or Internship.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research
  • Coordination of the counseling program(s)- review course offerings, plans of study and curriculum changes
  • Review program faculty workloads and oversee graduate applications
  • Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
  • Engage in service to the university and community
  • Makes recommendations regarding the development of and expenditures from the budget and temporary faculty (adjuncts)
  • Commitment to serving a heterogeneous student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.

· Support college and school initiatives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education program by August 2023 or an equivalent doctorate plus one year full-time in a CACREP accredited counseling program prior to the 2012-2013 school year.

· Eligibility for licensure and/or certification in the state of South Dakota.

· Knowledge of CACREP standards.

· Leadership ability

· Ability to teach in university settings (on-campus and online).

· Potential for scholarly activity, publication, and success in obtaining external funding to support research activity.

· Clinical supervision skills at the graduate level.

· Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations; the maintenance of certifications and/or licenses pertinent to the counseling specialty area(s); and, sustained professional development and renewal activities related to counseling, professional service and advocacy in counseling, and research and scholarly activity in counseling.

· Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Experience with CACREP accreditation self-study reports and/or site visits.

· Experience and/or training in Play Therapy.

· Experience working within rural and frontier communities.
